Maria Walnut is a Portuguese designer and illustrator. Before settling in Amsterdam, she lived in New York (where she did an internship at Sagmeister Inc.) and then in Berlin for 5 years (where among others she worked with designer Ariane Spanier and FUKT magazine). She collaborates often with film director Johan Kramer and was a member of the ADCN awards jury 2017.

She designs, illustrates and directs communication tools that range from branding to editorial projects, illustrations and animations. In her creative direction she looks for simplicity, empathy and personal spontaneity.


She works with a wide range of clients but is mainly interested in establishing long term connections and developing work with a social, environmental and/or cultural focus. 

Clients include: Strategyzer, Stad & Esch, Happykampink, Lloyd Hotel, Mr. & Mrs Lane, HEMA, ADCN, Kunsthal Rotterdam, Kranenburgh Museum, Tally-ho, TED talks, Klein Amsterdam, Happykamping, Fine, Fukt Magazine, Nouveaux magazine, Mono.Kultur magazine, Postcrossing.
